Kennel Cough

Also known as tracheobronchitis, kennel cough, as the name suggests itself, is a cough suffered by dogs.

This highly infectious canine illness is characterized by inflammation of the upper respiratory system. Bacterial infections such as bordetella bronchiseptica, or canine adenovirus, or canine distemper, or canine parainfluenca virus are the viral infections that cause this illness in dogs. Kennel cough infection an spread quickly among dogs such as in the close quarters of a kennel.

Kennel Cough Infection:

When infected dogs cough and sneeze, both bacterial and viral causes of kennel cough are spread. Two more ways this can be spread are contact with contaminated surfaces and direct contact. It is a highly contagious illness.

A dog or a group of dogs can be infected if an already infected dog or dogs come around. Kennels, groomers, dog shows, etc are the places and events dogs can catch up the illness from other infected dog(s). Usually, in 3 to 5 days after exposure symptoms start to appear. If left untreated, this disease can get the form of pneumonia.

Chesty Coughs:

This type of cough is loose and contains phlegm. In a way, it is a helpful type of cough as it helps you cough up all the phlegm lying in your chest. So, this is type of cough is doing good to you. You should not worry about it. Instead, you should be encouraged to bring more phlegm, which, if stated in your chest, can cause trouble in the form of high fever and vomiting.

Many doctors today suggest an expectorant that helps loose and thin the phlegm making it easier to cough-up the phlegm. This helps you to get rid of the phlegm in your chest sooner. Otherwise, if the phlegm stayed for too long in your lungs and chest, it can cause you illness.
